The photos you choose

When you tap Find the Best One, BestPet makes a compressed copy of each photo you selected and sends it to our ranking service. That service forwards the images to OpenAI, which performs the visual analysis and returns the scores and comments you see in the app.

The images exist only in memory for the few seconds the request takes. They are not written to disk, not saved to a database, not placed in object storage, and not recorded in our logs. When the response is returned, they are gone. We keep no copy and no way to retrieve one.

OpenAI's handling of the images is governed by their privacy policy and API data policies, under which API inputs are not used to train their models.

What never leaves your phone

BestPet does not ask for access to your photo library. It uses Apple's system photo picker, which hands the app only the specific images you select — the rest of your library is never visible to us.

The app also runs a quick check using Apple's Vision framework to see whether a photo appears to contain a cat or dog, so it can warn you if something looks out of place. That check runs entirely on your device and its results are never transmitted.

What is stored on your device

Three small things, all local to your phone and none of it sent anywhere:

• Your pet's name, if you choose to enter one.
• A count of how many rankings you've completed, used for the free allowance.
• Your purchase status.

Rankings themselves are not saved. Once you leave a result, it is gone — there is no history and no archive. Deleting the app removes everything above.

Purchases

BestPet offers a one-time purchase for unlimited rankings. The transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, card number, or Apple Account information — only whether this device is entitled to the purchase.

Analytics and tracking

There are none. BestPet contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier and does not track you across apps or websites. Diagnostic messages are written to your device's own system log and never transmitted to us.

Apple provides us with aggregate, anonymous App Store statistics such as download and crash counts. We cannot identify individual users from these.

Who else is involved

• OpenAI — performs the image analysis. Receives your photos for the duration of the request.
• Vercel — hosts the ranking service that relays those requests.
• Apple — distributes the app and processes purchases.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone else, for any purpose.

Your choices

Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is no account to close and no server-side data to request or erase. To remove everything the app has stored, delete the app. If you believe we hold data about you, write to us and we will confirm and delete it within 30 days.

Children

BestPet is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Since we collect no personal data from anyone, this is mostly a formality.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your photos are handled, we will update the date at the top of this page and describe the change in the app's release notes.
