Something not working, a stone identified wrongly, or an idea for what LORE should do next? Email hello@elulabs.com and you’ll hear back within two business days. Mentioning your iPhone model and iOS version helps — and for an identification problem, the photograph you used helps most of all.
Why did LORE say it wasn’t sure?
LORE covers a curated set of stones rather than every mineral on Earth. When nothing in the guide is close enough, it says so instead of returning the nearest guess. That is deliberate: a confident wrong answer is worse than an honest one.
An identification LORE could not make does not use up a free identification.
Getting a better identification
Photograph one stone at a time, filling most of the frame, in bright indirect daylight. Avoid direct sun, harsh shadows, and busy backgrounds — a plain surface works best. Wet or freshly polished stones read differently from dry ones, and a stone in a setting or alongside others is much harder to match.
It identified my stone incorrectly
Check the alternatives listed beneath the result — the correct stone is often among them, and each entry lists the visual traits to compare against. If it is confidently wrong, send us the photograph at hello@elulabs.com. Those are the most useful messages we get.
Free identifications and LORE+
LORE includes free identifications for everyone. The entire guide — all stones, their science and lore, browsing by quality, curated pairs, Stone of the Day — is free and always will be, as is your collection, with no cap on how many stones you save.
LORE+ adds unlimited identification and deeper tools for your own collection.
Managing a subscription
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You can also reach it from Profile inside LORE. If a purchase does not appear on a new device, tap Restore Purchases in Profile.
Your data
Your collection, notes, and settings never leave your iPhone. A photograph you submit for identification does: it is stripped of location data, sent over an encrypted connection, and kept by nobody. Identify by Features is the offline alternative and sends nothing. Anonymous usage analytics can be switched off in Profile › Preferences. The privacy policy has the detail.
A note on what LORE is for
LORE is a field guide, not an appraiser or a safety reference. Identifications are suggestions based on appearance, and symbolic content records folklore rather than established fact. For anything consequential, consult a gemmologist.
